EMERGENCYINFORMA TION
RemovetheignitionhandsetandswitchoffALLelectrical
equipmentofBOTHvehicles,thenfollowtheinstructions
below:
1ConnecttheREDboostercablebetweenthepositive
+terminalsofbothbatteries.Connectthe
BLACKboostercablefromthenegative-
terminalofthedonorbatteryAtoagoodearth
point(anenginemountingorotherunpaintedsurface,
forexample),atleast0.5mfromthebatteryandwell
awayfromfuelandbrakelinesonthedisabledvehicle
B.
IMPORTANT
DONOTconnectaboostercabletothenegative
(-)terminalofthedischargedbattery!Thismay
resultindamagetheelectricalcomponents.
2Checkthatthecablesareclearofmovingpartsofboth
engines,thenstarttheengineofthedonorvehicleand
allowittoidleforafewminutes.
3Nowstarttheengineofthevehiclewiththe
dischargedbattery(DONOTcranktheenginefor
morethan10seconds).
4Oncebothenginesarerunningnormally,allowthem
toidlefortwominutesbeforeswitchingofftheengine
ofthedonorvehicleanddisconnectingthebooster
cables.DONOTswitchonanyelectricalcircuits
onthepreviouslydisabledvehicleuntilAFTERthe
boostercableshavebeenremoved.
5Disconnectingtheboostercablesmustbeanexact
reversaloftheprocedureusedtoconnectthem,
i.e.disconnecttheBLACKcablefromtheearthpoint
onthedisabledvehicleFIRST .
Batteryreplacementreferstothesection‘Battery’inthe
‘Maintenance’Chapter.
IMPORTANT
NEVERturnonanyelectricalequipmentonthe
startedvehiclebeforeremovingtheboostercables.
