6.4.3.3 Mitral Valve Area (MVA)
Mitral Valve Area (MVA) can be calculated by two methods: pressure half time (PHT) or velocity-
time integral (VTI).
Tips: MVA Calculation by PHT method should be performed in CW mode, See MVA(PHT) in
“6.3.3 Doppler Cardiac Measurement” for formula of MVA Calculated by PHT method.

Aortic Valve Area (AVA) can be calculated by velocity-time integral (VTI). Measurements should be
performed on 2D and Doppler image.
