CHAPTER 9
TROUBLESHOOTING
The SonaStar is equipped with self-test routines, which monitor system operation. If a system
malfunction is detected, the FAULT light illuminates and an error code appears on the digital display.
Should a fault occur, consult Tables 9-1 and 9-2 in this chapter.
Caution Improper use or adjustment of this device may invalidate the Misonix, LLC Warranty
agreement. Contact your authorized Misonix, LLC representative before attempting to
troubleshoot this device in any manner other than those specified in this manual. There are
no user serviceable parts.
Table 9-1 is a troubleshooting guide for error messages which may appear on the digital display, and
which can be attended to by hospital staff. Upon correction of the problem, the system may be reset by
pressing the Linear or Preset key, and operation resumed.
Table 9-2 lists some possible system symptoms, indicating a malfunction, that do not generate an error
code. If the corrective action listed in the table does not solve the problem, contact your authorized
Misonix, LLC service representative.
9.1 Clearing Faults
A fault should be cleared using the following method:
1. Fix the problem indicated by the fault (see Tables 9-1 and 9-2).
2. Clear the fault on the front panel by pressing either the Preset or Linear keys.
3. The fault indicator bell should cease. If it does not, either the fault has not been corrected, or it
cannot be cleared in this manner. In this case the system should be powered-down for at least
15 seconds, then restarted. Enter setup as described in 6.4.
4. When the fault has been cleared, the system will be in Standby mode (neither the Preset nor
Linear key is illuminated).
5. Press the Preset or Linear key to resume operation in the desired mode.
9.2 Overriding Faults
Most errors should be cleared using the method outlined in the above section. However, persistent
E4 error codes may be overridden by using the following method, provided that the fault is not
critical.
1. Press the Fault Override button on the rear panel
2. The fault indicator bell should cease. If it does not, the fault cannot be cleared in this manner.
In either case, the Fault status indicator will continue to flash until the system is powered-
down and restarted.
3. Press the Preset or Linear key to resume operation in the desired mode.
4. When the operation is completed, be sure to call your Misonix, LLC Customer Service
Department.
