IGMP Snooping
Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) is used by IP hosts to register
their dynamic multicast group membership. IGMP has 3 versions, IGMP v1,
v2c and v3. Please refer to RFC 1112, 2236 and 3376. IGMP Snooping
improves the performance of networks that carry multicast traffic. It provides
the ability to prune multicast traffic so that it travels only to those end
destinations that require that traffic and reduces the amount of traffic on the
Ethernet LAN.
