Driving
Engaging conditions
A number of conditions must be met to engage the engine brake:
The engine speed must be more than 1000 rpm.
The oil temperature must be more than 27°C.
The clutch pedal is not operated.
The accelerator is not operated.
Vehicle is moving.
The engine brake is automatically switched off:
If the engine speed is less than 900 rpm or
the oil temperature is less than 27°C or
if the clutch is operated or
if the accelerator is pressed.
Activation of the engine brake
The engine brake is operated with the right-hand steering column switch. See section
'Right-hand steering column switch' in the chapter 'Instruments and controls'.
Depending on the vehicle configuration, the function is on or off for only an exhaust
brake or with four steps for the MX Engine Brake.
Engaging the exhaust brake
Briefly move the switch to position 'ON'
to activate the exhaust brake.
NOTE: With the exhaust
brake active, a green
warning indicator is visible
on the instrument panel. See
section 'Warning indicators
on instrument panel' in
chapter 'Master display'.
Briefly move the steering column switch
to position 'OFF' to deactivate the
exhaust brake.
When the exhaust brake is activated using the 'ON' position, the exhaust brake is
automatically deactivated when:
The clutch is operated.
The vehicle is switched to neutral gear.
The accelerator pedal is depressed.
Briefly move the switch to position 'ON' to activate the exhaust brake again.
