OPERATION
Table 5-8: Ford DEF Fluid Indicator Lamps and Warnings
The Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF) Level Low light indicates the fluid level has reached a low
level and a refill is needed. The operator should refill the reservoir when refilling the vehicle
with diesel fuel or at the end of their shift. Refilling the DEF tank under any of these
conditions should extinguish the light.
DEF level between full and an ECM-calculated range of + 500 miles: DEF Fluid Low light
will remain OFF.
DEF level is at an ECM-calculated range of below 500 miles:
DEF Fluid Low light will illuminate solid.
DEF level range is approaching 0:
Check Engine lamp illuminates.
Remaining range displayed on instrument panel for 60 seconds every five minutes
with an audible alarm.
DEF tank empty, vehicle has been driven for 100 miles at 0 DEF range, or parking brake
has been set for 1 hour:
DEF lamp and Check Engine lamp flash.
Remaining range continuously displayed on instrument panel with an audible alarm.
