Trouble
Cause
Remedy
ALTERNATOR
Zero
output
indicated
on
ammeter
regard-
less
of
RPM
(Refer
to
alternator
system
test
procedure).
Open
field circuit.
With
master
switch
turned
on, check
for
battery
voltage
from
airplane's
main
buss
through
entire
field
circuit
to alternator
field
terminal.
Mea-
sure voltage
from
ground
(-) to the
follow-
ing
points
(+)
in
se-
quence:
buss
bar,
out-
put circuit
diodes,
field circuit
breaker
(5A), field
terminals
of
master
switch,
voltage
regu-
lator
and alternator
field terminal.
Interruption
of
voltage
through
any of these
points
isolates
the faulty
components
or
wire
which
must
be
replaced.
(See
wiring
schematic.)
Open output
circuit.
With
the master
switch
off, use
a good
multi-
meter on
"Lo ohms"
scale
to check
the
diode.
Remove
wire
P3L
from
the
top
of
the
diode
and
the
fuse from
the in-line
holder,
continuity
across
the diode
should
be in
one
direction
only.
Likewise,
continuity
from
the heatsink
to
ground
should
be
in
one
direction
only.
Reinstall
the
wire
and
fuse.
