Camshaft Installation / Timing
NOTE: If any valve train components were replaced,
refer to “Valve Clearance Adjustment” procedure
prior to “Camshaft Installation / Timing”.
1. Rotate the engine and position the piston at TDC.
2. Reference the intake and exhaust markings made
during disassembly.
3. Lubricate all camshaft lobes and bearing journal
surfaces with Polaris PS-4 Plus engine oil prior to
installation.
4. Place the exhaust cam into the cylinder head and
align the timing marks as shown below.
5. Wrap the cam chain around the exhaust cam
sprocket and hold the exhaust cam in its current
position.
6. Carefully install the intake cam at an angle to allow
for cam chain installation. Roll the cam shaft into its
bearing pockets and verify that the timing marks are
in alignment as shown below.
NOTE: Intake cam sprocket should have “I”
marks aligned with gasket surface and the
exhaust cam sprocket should have “E” marks
aligned with gasket surface.
7. Carefully install the camshaft carrier onto the
camshafts.
