RFinterference
Certainthird-partyexternal
electricalequipmentcancauseRadioFrequency
(RF)interferencewithGNSS(GPS),AISorVHFdevices,iftheexternal
equipmentisnotadequatelyinsulatedandemitsexcessivelevelsof
electromagneticinterference(EMI).
SomecommonexamplesofsuchexternalequipmentincludeLEDlighting
(e.g.:navigationlights,searchlightsandfloodlights,interiorandexterior
lights)andterrestrialTVtuners.
Tominimizeinterferencefromsuchequipment:
KeepitasfarawayfromGNSS(GPS),AISorVHFproductsandtheir
antennasaspossible.
Ensurethatanypowercablesforexternalequipmentarenotentangled
withthepowerordatacablesforthesedevices.
Considerfittingoneormorehighfrequencysuppressionferritestothe
EMI-emittingdevice.Theferrite(s)shouldberatedtobeeffectiveinthe
range100MHzto2.5GHz,andshouldbefittedtothepowercableand
anyothercablesexitingtheEMI-emittingdevice,ascloseaspossibleto
thepositionwherethecableexitsthedevice.
Compasssafedistance
Whenchoosingasuitablelocationforyourproductyoushouldaimto
maintainthemaximumpossibledistancebetweentheproductandany
installedcompass.Thisdistanceshouldbeatleast1m(3ft)inalldirections.
Forsmallervesselsitmaynotbepossibletoachievethisdistance.Inthis
situationensurethatthecompassisnotaffectedbytheproductwhenitis
poweredon.
EMCinstallationguidelines
Raymarineequipmentandaccessoriesconformtotheappropriate
ElectromagneticCompatibility(EMC)regulations,tominimizeelectromagnetic
interferencebetweenequipmentandminimizetheeffectsuchinterference
couldhaveontheperformanceofyoursystem.
CorrectinstallationisrequiredtoensurethatEMCperformanceisnot
compromised.
Note:
Inareasofe
xtreme
EMCinterference,someslightinterferencemaybe
noticedontheproduct.Wherethisoccurstheproductandthesourceof
theinterferenceshouldbeseparatedbyagreaterdistance.
ForoptimumEMCperformancewerecommendthatwhereverpossible:
Raymarineequipmentandcablesconnectedtoitare:
Atleast1m(3.3ft)fromanyequipmenttransmittingorcablescarrying
radiosignalse.g.VHFradios,cablesandantennas.InthecaseofSSB
radios,thedistanceshouldbeincreasedto2m(6.6ft).
Morethan2m(6.6ft)fromthepathofaradarbeam.Aradarbeam
cannormallybeassumedtospread20degreesaboveandbelowthe
radiatingelement.
Theproductissuppliedfromaseparatebatteryfromthatusedforengine
start.Thisisimportanttopreventerraticbehavioranddatalosswhichcan
occuriftheenginestartdoesnothaveaseparatebattery.
Raymarinespecifiedcablesareused.
Cablesarenotcutorextended,unlessdoingsoisdetailedinthe
installationmanual.
Note:
Whereconstraintsontheinstallationpreventanyoftheabove
recommendations,alwaysensurethemaximumpossibleseparation
betweendifferentitemsofelectricalequipment,toprovidethebest
conditionsforEMCperformancethroughouttheinstallation.
Suppressionferrites
Raymarinecablesmaybepre-fittedorsuppliedwithsuppressionferrites.
TheseareimportantforcorrectEMCperformance.Ifferritesaresupplied
separatelytothecables(i.e.notpre-fitted),youmustfitthesupplied
ferrites,usingthesuppliedinstructions.
Ifaferritehastoberemovedforanypurpose(e.g.installationor
maintenance),itmustbereplacedintheoriginalpositionbeforethe
productisused.
Useonlyferritesofthecorrecttype,suppliedbyRaymarineorits
authorizeddealers.
