7. Battery safety information
Although handling non-rechargeable and rechargeable batteries in daily life is a matter of course
today, there are numerous hazards and problems. Compared with conventional NiMH rechargeable
batteries, LiPo rechargeable batteries have a high energy content. For this reason, it is essential to
comply with safety regulations to prevent the risk of a re or explosion.
Always observe the following safety information when handling batteries.
• Keep non-rechargeable/rechargeable batteries out of the reach of children.
• Do not leave non-rechargeable/rechargeable batteries lying around, as they present a choking hazard
for children and pets. Seek immediate medical advice if a battery is swallowed!
• Non-rechargeable/rechargeablebatteriesmustneverbeshort-circuited,takenapartorthrownintore.
Thereisariskofexplosion!
• Ifyoudonotplantousethemodelforanextendedperiod(e.g.duringstorage),removethebatteries
from the remote control to prevent them from leaking and causing damage. Completely disconnect the
drive rechargeable batteries from the speed controller and remove them from the vehicle.
• When handling leaking or damaged non-rechargeable/rechargeable batteries, always use suitable
protective gloves to avoid burning your skin.
• Liquids leaking from batteries are very chemically aggressive. Objects or surfaces coming into contact
with these liquids could be severely damaged. Always store batteries in a suitable location that is not
prone to damage.
• Donotattempttorechargedisposable,non-rechargeablebatteries.Thismaycauseareorexplosion!
Only recharge compatible rechargeable batteries and ensure that you use a suitable battery charger.
• Observe the correct polarity when inserting batteries/rechargeable batteries or connecting drive
rechargeable batteries (observe plus/+ and minus/-).
• Nevermixnon-rechargeablebatterieswithrechargeablebatteries.Theremotecontrolcanbepowered
with disposable or rechargeable batteries.
• Alwaysexchangetheentiresetofbatteriesintheremotecontrol.Donotmixfullbatterieswithhalf-full
ones. Always use batteries of the same type and from the same manufacturer.
• The type of charger you require may vary depending on the type of rechargeable battery (NiMH, LiPo....).
Forexample,youshouldneverchargeLiPobatterieswithaNiMHbatterycharger.Thismaycausea
reorexplosion!
• A suitable balancer (usually already integrated in good LiPo chargers) is required to charge multi-cell
LiPo rechargeable batteries. A balancer (often referred to as an equaliser) prevents the overcharging of
a single LiPo cell by checking the individual cell voltages.
OverchargingaLiPobatterycell(max.cellvoltage4.24V)cancausethebatterytoexpandoreven
resultinareorexplosion.
• Onlychargeintactandundamagedbatteries.Donotchargebatteriesiftheexternalinsulationorbattery
housingisdamaged,orifthebatteryisdeformedorswollen.Thismaycauseareorexplosion!
• Never charge batteries immediately after use. Always allow them to cool down for at least 5–10 minutes.
• Always remove the drive battery from the model before charging it. Before charging the drive
rechargeable batteries, completely disconnect them from the speed controller.
