thesteeringwheelcanbelockedwhenturnitleftor
rightwardsslightly.
Note:IfthekeycannotbeswitchedfromPosition0to
Position1whilethesteeringwheelislocked,turning
thesteeringwheelgentlyleftandrightwardsand
switchingthekeyagaintounlockthesteeringwheel.
StartingtheEngine
Neverstartorleavetheenginerunningin
anunventilatedbuilding–exhaustgasesare
poisonousandcontaincarbonmonoxide,
whichcancauseunconsciousnessandmay
evenbefatal.
Catalyticconverterscanbedamagedifthe
wrongfuelisused,orifanenginemisre
occurs.Beforestartingtheengine,you
shouldbeawareoftheprecautionsdetailed
under‘CatalyticConverter’.
StartingtheEngine
1Switchoffallunnecessaryelectricalequipment
(includingtheairconditioning).
2Checkthatthehandbrakeisfullyapplied(see‘Brake
System’inthischapter).
3Fullypressthebrakepedal,andensurethatthegear
leverisintheNposition(forAMT).
