Itisbetterthatwarminguptheengineaccordingtothe
surroundingtemperatureuntilthewaterthermometer
beginstowork.Intheinterestoffueleconomyandair
pollution,itisadvisabletodrivethecarwithin2minutes
afterwarmingup.
Notethatrapidaccelerationandsuddenincreaseofengine
loadbeforereachingthenormaloperatingtemperature
maydamagetheengine.
Parking
Afterbringingthecartoastop,ALWA YSapplythe
handbrakeandselectNposition(AMT)orneutralposition
(MT),beforereleasingthefootbrakeandswitchingoffthe
engine.
Afterperiodsofstrenuoustowing(particularlyathigh
altitudeorinhotweather),itisgoodpracticetoallow
theenginetoidleforafewminutesbeforeswitchingoff.
Thiswillenabletheenginecoolingsystemtocontinue
operatingforawhileinordertoreduceheatunderthe
bonnet.
Running-in
Theengine,transmission,brakesandtyresneedtimeto
‘bed–in’andadjusttothedemandsofeverydaymotoring.
Duringtherst1,500km,itisessentialthatyoudrive
withconsiderationfortherunning-inprocessandheedthe
followingadvice:
•Donotallowtheenginetoexceed3,000rpminanygear,
orthedrivespeedtoexceed120km/h.
•Donotoperateatfullthrottleinanygear.
•Donotallowtheenginetolabourinanygear.
•Donotdriveataconstantspeed(whateverathighor
low).
•Avoidheavybrakingwherepossible.
Aftertherst1,500kmhasbeencompleted,enginespeeds
canbegraduallyincreased.
