4.2 CHECKING AND CLEANING THE CHUTES
Check the chutes for any adhesion of product fines. Wipe off any accumulated fines
with a soft cloth, being careful not to scratch the chutes.
For some products, in colder conditions the chute heaters should be used to help
prevent product build-up.
4.3 CHECKING THE WINDOW WIPER
Check to ensure that the wiper is properly cleaning the viewer windows. If a brush
becomes worn or distorted, it should be replaced.
4.4 CHECKING AND CLEANING THE VIEWER
If over a period of time dust and product residue adhere to the windows and the
wiper can not remove it all, the windows must be cleaned by hand.
Turn off the power to the machine. Pivot the front half of the viewer outward, and
wipe the windows with a soft cloth. The use of a liquid or spray type window
cleaner is recommended.
Return the viewer to the operating position.
Open the viewer doors and vacuum any dust from the inside of the viewers. It is
not recommended that the viewers be blown out with compressed air, as this may
result in dust being blown into the optics/detector area where it will be difficult to
remove.
If dust has accumulated inside the windows, remove the fluorescent lamps (see
Section 4.5) and clean the windows from the inside. Wipe any dust off of the lens
assemblies.
Re-install the lamps (see Section 4.5) and return the machine to operation.
4.5 LAMP REPLACEMENT
After a period of time, the ends of the fluorescent lamps will turn dark and the
lamps must be replaced. It is best to replace all four lamps at one time.
Replace the lamps as follows:
A. Turn off power to the machine. The regulated power supply (lamp ballast)
will be damaged if the lamps are unplugged while power is on.
B. Wait until the lamps have cooled to prevent damage to the lamp phosphor.
This is especially important if the lamp will be used again (as in changing
from one lamp color to another lamp color).
C. Open the viewer doors.
