Limitations of JPEG format
WhentransferringorexportingimagesinJPEG
format,thesystemuseslossycompression.Lossy
compressionmaycreateimagesthathaveless
absolutedetailthanBMPformatandthatdon’t
renderidenticallytotheoriginalimages.
Insomecircumstances,lossy‐compressedimages
maybeinappropriateforclinicaluse.For
example,ifyou
useimagesinSonoCalc
®
IMT
software,youshouldtransferorexportthem
usingBMPformat.SonoCalcIMTsoftwareusesa
sophisticatedalgorithmtomeasu reimages,and
lossy‐compressionmaycauseerrors.
