Toolpath Width Calibration
If your FDM modeler is not extruding the correct toolpath widths, follow these
steps to check the toolpath widths and change them, if necessary.
1. Start FDM Status application.
2. Click the Calibration button (micrometer icon).
3. Specify the properties of the modeler in the Configure Modeler window.
This is much like the configuration window in Insight. Specify the
· model material type
· support material type
· model tip size
· support tip size
· slice height
4. Click the green check-mark icon to confirm the modeler configuration
parameters. These parameters will determine the values used to build
the calibration box used to set the toolpath width calibration.
5. The Calibration window is displayed.
6. Choose Toolpath width as the type of Download data. For
toolpath width calibration you will be building a calibration box.
7. Click the Download button (monitor and modeler icon) to build an
initial calibration box using the current modeler configuration.
8. The FDM Pause light will start to blink. Press the Pause button to
initiate the XYZ homing procedure. When the Pause light starts to blink
again, the extrusion head will be in the front-left corner. Lower the tip
so that it is touching the foam. Press the Pause light again to start
building the calibration box.
9. Remove the calibration box and measure the wall thickness of the
toolpaths. The goal is to match the Model toolpath width displayed in the
Calibration window. Typically this will be:
0.014 inches wide for the T10 tip
0.030 inches wide for T12 and T16 tips
10. If the measured values do not match the intended values you must
enter compensation values using the keypad on the front of the FDM.
11. To change the toolpath width:
A. Press space 2 3 1
B. Press 2 enter
C. To extrude more material, to produce a wider toolpath bead enter a
number, followed by enter. For example, 2 enter will increase extru
sion by 2 percent.
D. To extrude less material, to decrease the width of the toolpath bead
enter a number, followed by - and enter. For example, 2 - enter will
decrease extrusion by 2 percent.
12. Repeat steps 7-11 until the toolpath width is properly calibrated.
