Maintenance—Periodic
Cleaning and Lubricating the Lead Screws
This procedure should be done once a month
1) Wipe loose material away from the Z-stage platen and frame with a clean,
dry rag.
2) Use the manual control buttons to move the Z-stage platen to the bottom of
the FDM envelope.
3) Place a cardboard backing around the lead screw to prevent lubrication from
contaminating the Z-stage envelope.
4) Spray the lead screw with a generous amount of teflon-based synthetic
lubricant. Stratasys uses, supplies, and recommends Super-Lube
®
by
Synco.
Do not use a petroleum based lubricant.Do not apply lubricant while
the machine is hot.
5) Use the manual control buttons to move the Z-stage platen up and
down several times. This spreads the lubricant evenly along the lead
screws.
6) Wipe any excess fluid away from the screws and Z-stage platen and enve-
lope.
A high temperature Teflon lubricant must be used to lubricate the xy table cables.
Stratasys recommends “Krytox” which is included in your “Start Up” kit. Do not
use any other type of lubricant. The xy table cables should be lubricated monthly
to ensure continued optimal performance and prevent drying and cracking of the
coating which protects the wire.
The interior components of the FDM are hot!!!! Prior to removing and
applying lubricant, lower the temperature of the model, support, and
envelope Watlows to zero degrees, and wait for the FDM to cool down to
a safe working temperature. In addition, make sure you use the safety
glasses to avoid debris blowing into your eyes.
