Sanding the Model
Use sandpaper to remove small bits of material without changing the part's
dimensional tolerances. Use 120 grit sandpaper for larger bits and 320 grit sand-
paper to give the part a smooth surface.
1) Use a Random-orbital sander to smooth large surface areas evenly.
This method removes significant amounts of material and can quickly
take the part out of specified tolerances.
2) Use a Detail sander to smooth medium sized surface areas evenly. Use 120
grit sandpaper for larger bits and 320 grit sandpaper for very small areas.
3) Sand manually to give the model a smooth final finish.
Machining the Model
Models made from ABS plastic can be machined, drilled, and tapped.
Improper machining can melt or warp the part.
Gluing the Model
Use ABS glue (e.g. Ambroid Pro-Weld) to repair any breaks or cracks in the
model.
l Brush a small amount of glue on each of the two adjoining surfaces. This
helps the joining process.
Do not use excessive amounts of glue. Too much glue slows the
curing process and might distort thin-walled surfaces.
