Calls to conventional channels
You may be able to change to conventional channels using the
channel selector. Radios with an alphanumeric keypad may be
able to dial the channel number.
In conventional mode, you communicate directly with other radios
or via a repeater rather than through the trunking network. The
following diagram shows a typical display in conventional mode
and explains some of the information that may be available.
Selecting a conventional channel
To select a conventional channel:
■ change to the assigned position on the channel selector and
press the PTT key or , or
■ dial the number for the channel you with to call (101 to 110)
and press the PTT key, or .
If any trunking functions, such as ‘do not disturb’ or call queuing,
are active when the radio enters conventional mode, these
functions are automatically deactivated.
Checking that a channel is clear
On conventional channels, you or your user group may be
segregated from other user groups by special signaling. If an
incoming call carries the special signaling tones specific to you or
your user group, your radio’s signaling mute opens and you can
hear the call. These tones may not be audible.
The monitor function allows you to override any special signaling
on a channel, so that you can check that the channel is clear
before you make a call.
