server.YourcomputersupportsthepersonalcomputerfunctionsthatPXErequires.Forexample,withthe
appropriateLANcard,yourcomputercanbebootedfromthePXEserver.
Note:RemoteProgramLoad(RPL)cannotbeusedwithyourcomputer.
WakeonLAN
AnetworkadministratorcanuseWakeonLANtoturnonacomputerfromamanagementconsole.
WhenWakeonLANisusedwithnetworkmanagementsoftware,manyfunctions,suchasdatatransfer,
softwareupdates,andFlashupdatesofUEFIBIOS,canbeperformedremotelywithoutremoteattendance.
Thisupdatingcanbedoneafternormalworkinghoursandonweekends,tosavetimeandincrease
productivity.Usersarenotinterruptedduringnormalworkinghours,andLANtrafficiskepttoaminimum.
IfacomputeristurnedonbytheWakeonLANfunction,theNetworkbootsequenceisused.
AssetIDEEPROM
TheAssetIDEEPROMcontainsinformationaboutthesystem,includingitsconfigurationandtheserial
numbersofkeycomponents.Italsoincludesanumberofblankfieldsinwhichyoucanrecordinformation
abouttheendusersinyournetwork.
Settingmanagementfeatures
Toenablethenetworkadministratortocontrolyourcomputerremotely,youmustconfigurethenetwork
interfacebysettingthesystem-managementfeaturesintheThinkPadSetupprogram.Youcanconfigure
