b.IntheConfirmNewPasswordfield,retypethepasswordandpressEnter.
•Tochangeapassword,dothefollowing:
a.IntheEnterCurrentPasswordfield,typethecurrentpower-onpasswordandpressEnter.
b.IntheEnterNewPasswordfield,typethenewpower-onpasswordandpressEnter;thenretype
thepasswordintheConfirmNewPasswordfieldandPressEnter.
•Toremoveapassword,dothefollowing:
a.IntheEnterCurrentPasswordfield,typethecurrentpower-onpasswordandpressEnter.
b.LeavetheEnterNewPasswordandConfirmNewPasswordfieldsblank.PressEntertwice.
5.ASetupNoticewindowisdisplayed.PressEntertocontinue.
6.PressF10.ASetupConfirmationwindowisdisplayed.SelectYestosavetheconfigurationchanges
andexit.
Note:Youmightwanttorecordyourpasswordandstoreitinasafeplace.Otherwise,ifyouforgetthe
password,youhavetotakeyourcomputertoaLenovoreselleroramarketingrepresentativetohave
thepasswordcanceled.
Harddiskpasswords
Thefollowingtwotypesofharddiskpasswordscanhelpprotecttheinformationstoredontheharddiskdrive:
•Userharddiskpassword
Ifauserharddiskpasswordhasbeenset,butnomasterharddiskpasswordhasbeen,theusermust
entertheuserharddiskpasswordtoaccessfilesandapplicationsontheharddiskdrive.
•Masterharddiskpassword
Themasterharddiskpasswordalsorequiresauserharddiskpassword.Themasterharddiskpassword
isusuallysetandusedbyasystemadministrator.Itenablestheadministratortoaccessanyharddisk
driveinasystemlikeamasterkey.Theadministratorsetsthemasterpassword;thenassignsauser
passwordforeachcomputerinthenetwork.Theusercanthenchangetheuserpasswordasdesired,but
theadministratorstillcangetaccessbyusingthemasterpassword.
Whenamasterharddiskpasswordisset,onlytheadministratorcanremovetheuserharddiskpassword.
Settingaharddiskpassword
Beforeyoustart,printtheseinstructions.
Tosetaharddiskpassword,dothefollowing:
1.Turnoffyourcomputer.Waitforaboutfiveseconds,andthenturnonthecomputeragain.
2.Whenthelogoscreenisdisplayed,pressF1tostarttheThinkPadSetupprogram.
3.SelectSecurity➙Password➙Harddisk1Passwordbyusingthedirectionalkeys.
4.Apasswordwindowisdisplayed.YouarepromptedtoselectUserorUser+Master.SelectUserif
youwanttosetonlyoneharddiskpassword.SelectUser+Masterifyouwanttosetauserharddisk
passwordandamasterharddiskpassword,forexampleifyouareanadministratororasupervisor.
•IfyouselectUser,dothefollowing:
a.Whenawindowfortypingthenewpasswordopens,typeyournewpasswordintheEnterNew
PasswordfieldandpressEnter.
