TrainingPeriod
Beforemowinggreenswiththemachine,itis
recommendedthatyoundaclearareaandpractice
startingandstopping,raisingandloweringthecutting
units,turning,etc.Thistrainingperiodwillbe
benecialtotheoperatoringainingcondenceinthe
performanceofthemachine.
BeforeMowing
Inspectthegreenfordebris,removetheagfromthe
cup,anddeterminethebestdirectiontomow.Basethe
directiontomowonthepreviousmowingdirection.
Alwaysmowinanalternatepatternfromtheprevious
mowingsothatthegrassbladeswillbelessapttolay
downandthereforebedifculttotrapbetweenthereel
bladesandbedknife.
Mowing
1.Approachthegreenwiththefunctionalcontrol
leverintheMowpositionandthethrottleatfull
speed.Startononeedgeofthegreensothe
ribbonprocedureofcuttingmaybeused.This
holdscompactiontoaminimumandleavesaneat,
attractivepatternonthegreens.
2.Actuatetheraise/lowermowleverasthefrontedge
ofthegrassbasketscrosstheouteredgeofthe
green.Thisproceduredropsthecuttingunitstothe
turfandstartsthereels.
Important:Familiarizeyourselfwiththefact
thattheNo.1cuttingunitreelisdelayedand
therefore,youshouldpracticetotrytogain
therequiredtimingnecessarytominimizethe
cleanupmowingoperation.
3.Overlapaminimalamountwiththepreviouscut
onreturnpasses.Toassistinmaintainingastraight
lineacrossthegreenandkeepthemachinean
equaldistancefromtheedgeofthepreviouscut,
establishanimaginarysightlineapproximately6to
10ft(1.8to3m)aheadofthemachinetotheedge
oftheuncutportionofthegreen(Figure33and
Figure34).Somenditusefultoincludetheouter
edgeofthesteeringwheelaspartofthesightline;
i.e.keepthesteeringwheeledgealignedwithapoint
thatisalwayskeptthesamedistanceawayfromthe
frontofthemachine(Figure33andFigure34).
4.Asthefrontofthebasketscrosstheedgeofthe
green,movetheraise/lowermowleverrearward.
Thiswillstopthereelsandliftthecuttingunits.
Timingofthisprocedureisimportant,sothe
mowersdonotcutintothefringearea.However,
asmuchofthegreenaspossibleshouldbecutto
minimizetheamountofgrasslefttomowaround
theouterperiphery.
5.Cutdownonoperatingtimeandeaselineupforthe
nextpassbymomentarilyturningthemachinein
theoppositedirection,thenturninginthedirection
oftheuncutportion;i.e.,ifintendingtoturnright,
rstswingslightlyleft,thenright.Thiswillassistin
gettingthemachinemorequicklyalignedforthe
nextpass.Followthesameprocedureforturningin
theoppositedirection.Itisagoodpracticetotryto
makeasshortofaturnaspossible.However,turn
inawiderarcduringwarmerweathertominimize
thepossibilityofbruisingtheturf.
