1.Cleantheareaaroundthesparkplugssoforeign
mattercannotfallintothecylinderwhenthespark
plugisremoved.
2.Pullthesparkplugwiresoffofthesparkplugsand
removetheplugsfromthecylinderhead.
3.Checktheconditionofthesideelectrode,center
electrode,andcenterelectrodeinsulatortoensure
thatthereisnodamage.
Important:Replaceacracked,fouled,dirty,or
otherwisemalfunctioningsparkplug.Donot
sandblast,scrape,orcleanelectrodesbyusinga
wirebrushbecausegritmayeventuallyrelease
fromtheplug,fallintothecylinder,anddamage
theengine.
4.Settheairgapbetweenthecenterandsideofthe
electrodesat0.030in.(0.76mm)(Figure51).

ReplacingtheFuelFilter
Anin-linelterisincorporatedintothefuellinebetween
thefueltankandcarburetor(Figure52).Replacethe
lterevery800hoursorsoonerifthefuelowis
restricted.Besurethearrowonthelterispointing
awayfromthefueltank.
Incertainconditions,gasolineisextremely
ammableandhighlyexplosive.Areor
explosionfromgasolinecanburnyouand
othersandcandamageproperty.
•Draingasolinefromthefueltankwhenthe
engineiscold.Dothisoutdoorsinanopen
area.Wipeupanygasolinethatspills.
•Neversmokewhendraininggasoline,and
stayawayfromanopenameorwherea
sparkmayignitethegasolinefumes.
1.Closethefuelshutoffvalve,loosenthehoseclamp
onthecarburetorsideoflter,andremovethefuel
linefromthelter(Figure52).
