holes,cracks,orlooseconnections,andtightenanyloose
connections.

Important:Donotremovetheair-cleanerelements
fromthemachineandoperatetheenginetocheckfor
arestriction;dirtanddebriscouldentertheengineand
causeprematurewear.Alwaysfollowtheinstructionsin
thefollowingprocedures.
Note:Checktheprimaryandsecondaryair-cleanerelements
whentherestrictedair-cleanerlightcomeson.
Note:Donotreplaceanoldaircleanerelementwithan
elementthatismorethan5yearsold;checkthedateof
manufactureontheendcapoftheelement.
Note:Everytimeyouservicetheaircleanersystem,ensure
thatallhoseconnectionsandangesareairtight.Replace
alldamagedparts.
CheckingtheAir-intakePiping

Inspecttheair-intakepipingforwear,damage,andloose
clamps(Figure69).

Replacealldamagedpipes,andtightenlooseclampsto
preventtheairsystemfromleaking.
Note:Torquethelooseclampsto8N-m(72in-lb).
Checkforcorrosionundertheclampsandhoses.
Corrosioncanallowcorrodeddebrisanddirttoenter
theintakesystem.Disassembleandcleanthecleanthe
componentsasnecessary.
ReplacingtheAir-cleanerElements
Important:Donottrytocleanadirtyprimaryor
secondaryair-cleanerelement.
1.Removetheleftsidepanel;refertoRemovingtheSide
Panels(page45).
2.Unlatchthe4latchesthatholdtheair-cleanercover
andremovethecover(Figure70).
