one PIB VoIP proxy that re-broadcasts the audio to up to 31 other panels. The
use of the line as unidirectional or bi-directional is changed “on the fly”
through software negotiation when calls are set up.
• When the QE20 needs to dial out for a Speech call it uses the PA channel of
the first VIF, and when it needs to dial out for a WIP call it uses the WIP
channel of the first VIF.
• Paging console audio and background music may use any channels (PA /
WIP) on additional VIFs.
• A single PIB VoIP proxy can distribute audio to 31 other panels, but this
capacity is shared across all the active audio channels (up to 4) the proxy
connects to. For large systems with multiple audio sources being broadcast
multiple PIBs may be required. The PIB used for Panel-Link networking can
also do the VoIP proxy function.
• A VIF can power at most two ATAs, and it will be arranged that a VIF does not
power any ATAs that it is not otherwise associated with.
If you do not have access to QE20COST, it should be assumed half a VIF will be
required for each of the WIP, Speech, PABX, or background music functions.
Similarly, half an ATA will be required for each of these functions. One PIB is
required for 31 simultaneous callers. If multiple PIBs are needed, it should be
calculated on the basis that audio sources aren’t split across PIBs.
3.1.5 Example Arrangements
See Figure 2, Figure 3, and Figure 4 for some example arrangements, and drawing
699-295 for generic wiring. Note the PIB for Panel-Link networking is not shown.
Figure 2 shows an example where one line is required for Speech (PA) and one line
for WIP. The Speech line can be used for incoming Speech to amplifiers at this
node and/or sending Speech to only one remote node. The WIP line can be used for
1 to 1 calls, receiving All-Call, or making All-Call to only one remote node. Speech
and All-Call cannot be made to multiple nodes.

Figure 3 adds the PIB for the VoIP Proxy function so this QE20 can also send
speech and / or WIP All-Call to multiple nodes.
