MACHINE TOWING
WARNING: Personal injury or death may result when towing a disabled machine incorrectly.
WARNING: Block the wheels of the machine to prevent movement before attempting to release
the brakes. When the brakes are released the machine can roll freely.
The machine is equipped with a spring applied hydraulic released park brake system. If the engine is inoperable or a
problem exists which will not allow hydraulic pressure to build in the park brake system the machine will not be able
to move.
Use the following instructions for moving a disabled machine a short distance. Use these instructions for emergency
situations only. Always haul the machine if long distance moving is required. Maximum towing speed is 1mph.
Damage to the pumps, motors or planetaries may occur.
1.Block the wheels of the disabled machine to prevent it from
rolling in the forward or reverse direction.
2. Turn park brake release override knob (1) clockwise till tight.
This opens the valve to allow the manual pump to apply pressure
to release the parking brake.
3. Move park brake release handle (2) to the park brake manual
pump (3). Pump the valve until the brakes release. Stow the
handle in the holder.
4.Using an 1 1/16” wrench or socket, open the multifunction
valve bypass. There are two valves (4) on each ground drive
pump. Turn each of the four valves out 3 turns counter-
clockwise. This bypasses the pump so that when the wheels turn
it does not damage the components of the pump.
5. Attach tow vehicle to the machine using a rigid coupling
strong enough to move and stop the 48,500 lb machine.
6. After the tow vehicle is securely attached remove the blocks
from under the wheels. Tow the disabled machine to an area that
will allow for the service to be performed.
7. Before unattaching the tow vehicle securely block the wheels.
8. Turn the multifunction valve bypasses clockwise until they are tight (3 turns).
9. Turn the park brake release override knob counter-clockwise until the knob gets tight. This will apply the park
brake.
10. Remove blocks from the wheels.
