4.2 SummaryofCommandLineInterface(CLI)
The Command Line Interface (CLI) has several command modes.
Available CLI commands vary depending on the command modes. The structure of the
command modes is as shown below.
For changing the command mode, key-in the command over each of the arrowed line. User Exec
mode is the starting point just after log-in.

Command Mode Prompt Description
User Exec >
This is the first level of access, supporting a limited set of
available commands in the Privileged Exec mode.
Privileged Exec # Most of the basic operation commands are available in this mode.
VLAN (Vlan) # All the commands pertaining to VLANs are grouped by this mode.
Global Config (Config) #
This mode permits the operator to make modifications to the
running configuration. General setup commands are grouped in
this mode.
Line Config (Line) #
Operators are allowed to configure the console interface by this
mode.
Interface Config (Interface <slot/port>) #
Interface commands to modify operations of an interface can be
used in this mode.
The slot No. of the Managed Switch is always “1,” and the port
No. indicates the port No. to modify.
MAC Access List
Config
(Config macaccess-list) #
Create a MAC Access-List and enter the mode containing Mac
Access-List configuration commands.
Router RIP Config (Config Router) #
An operator is allowed to access the router RIP configuration
commands.
Router OSPF Config (Config Router) #
An operator is allowed to access the router OSPF configuration
commands.
