Defaultrouteisalsoakindofspecialstaticroutes.Whenallroutesarefailedinrouting
table,defaultrouteisadoptedtomakepackethasanaldestination.Inthisway,the
processingburdenofroutercanbereducedalot.
Whenaroutercannotrouteapacket,thepackethastobedropped.However,thisisnot
hopedthatpacketisdroppedinan"unknown"destination.T osupportcompleteconnection
ofrouter,thismusthavearouteconnectedtoanetwork.Ifrouterwantstokeepcomplete
connectionandmeanwhiledoesnotneedtorecordeachindependentroute,defaultroute
canbeused.Byuseofdefaultroute,anindependentroutecanbedesignatedtoindicate
allotherroutes.
AsshowninFigure1-4,sincethereisnoroutepointingtoInternetonS1,S1needstouse
defaultroutethatsendpacketstoS2forprocessing.
