BGPprovidesamechanismcalledRouteDampeningtoreducethenetwork
instabilitycausedbyrouteapping.Sincetheupdateandcancellationmessages
aretransmittedinnetworkcontinuallywhenrouteappingoccurs,thebandwidthand
routerprocessingresourceareusedalot.
TheprincipleofBGProutedampeningisthatallocateapenaltyof1000toroute
whenevertherouteappingoccurs.Whenthepenaltyreachestoasuppress-limit,the
advertisementoftheroutewillbesuppressed.Thepenaltydecreasesgeometrically
afterpassingeveryhalf-life-time.Whenthepenaltyreducestothereuse-limit,the
routeadvertisementdampeningwillbecancelled.
ThefollowingvaluesareusedbyBGProutedampening.
àHalf-life-time:Rangingfrom1to45minutes(Thedefaultvalueis15minutes)
àReuse-value:Rangingfrom1to20000(Thedefaultvalueis750)
