5.12.1. PARALLELING TECHNIQUE
The paralleling technique results in good quality x-rays with a minimum of distortion and is the most reliable technique for taking periapi-
cal x-rays. The lm is placed parallel to the long axis of the tooth in question and the central x-ray beam should be directed perpendicular
to the long axis of the tooth.
5.12.2. BISECTING ANGLE TECHNIQUE
The bisecting angle technique is based on the principle of aiming the central ray of the x-ray beam at right angles to an imaginary line
which bisects the angle formed by the longitudinal axis of the tooth and the plane of the lm or sensor. A bisector is a plane or line that
divides a line or angle into two equal portions.
