A typical cell site contains many pieces of hardware. These may include, but are not
limited to:
• racks of radios
• combiners
• coaxial feedline
• tower-mounted amplifiers
• lightning protection devices
• filters
• antennas
These may operate at multiple cellular, personal communication system (PCS), and
microwave frequencies.
The components of the cell site that lie between the transmitting/receiving ports
(radios) up to and including the antenna are commonly referred to as the “antenna
system.” Those components between the antenna and the radio ports are referred to
as the “antenna feedline system.”
