Operation
6Operation
For pumps in explosion-hazard areas ( ATEX additional
instructions).
6.1 Preparing initial start-up
6.1.1 Ide ntifying the pump type
Thepumpversionsvarye.g. withregardtothedesign,
bearing lubrication, type of shaft seal and auxiliary operat-
ing systems.
Identify the pump type ( order data sheet).
6.1.2 Re m oving p reservative
Only necessary for pumps treated for storage.
Removing preservative ( 4.4 Removing preservative,
Page 14).
6.1.3 Preparing auxiliary systems (if available)
The manufacturer does not accept any liab ility for damage
caused by installing or using a third-party or unapproved
auxiliary system.
Sealing systems
1. Verify that the sealing medium is suitable to mix (i.e.
compatible) with the pumped liquid ( Sealing medium
requirements:, Page 47).
2. Identify the sealing system ( order data sheet).
3. Install the sealing system ( manufactu rer’s specica-
tions).
4. Depending on the type of shaft seal, ensure the corre-
sponding parameters ( Operating parameters of the
shaft seals, P age 47).
5. Ensure that the permissible container pressure is n ot
exceeded on blocking pressure systems ( manufac-
turer’s specications).
Heating and cooling system of the shaft seal
1. Open the supply line to the heating and cooling system.
2. Switch on the heating and cooling system.
3. Ensure the required parameters ( Operating parameters
of the cooling and h eating medium, Page 48).
Heating and cooling system of the pump casing
1. Open the supply line to the heating and cooling system.
2. Switch on the heating and cooling system.
3. Ensure the required parameters ( Operating parameters
of the cooling and h eating medium, Page 48).
Heating the stator
Prepare and switch on auxiliary system according to manu-
facturer ’s specications ( manufacturer’s specications).
6.1.4 Filling pump
Venting is not necessary.
DANGER
Danger to life due to hazardous media!
Use protective equipment when carrying out any work on
the pump.
Safely collect escaping transport, sealing and heating
media and disp ose of them in an environmentally friendly
manner.
1. Fill the pump and the suction pipe with pumped liquid.
2. Open the suction-side tting.
3. Open the pressure-side tting.
4. If present, open auxil iary systems and check the ow of the
sealing, cooling and heating media. Set the corresponding
operating parameters.
5. Verify that no pipe connections are leaking.
6.1.5 Turning the pump
Only turn the pump when restarting and after longer down-
times.
Pump is lled
DANGER
Risk of death due to rotating parts!
Use personal protective equipment when carrying out any
work on the pu mp.
Keep an adequate distance to rotating parts.
NOTE
The pump can break loose due to adhesions between the
stator and rotor!
Turn the pump briey.
Do not strike the shaft.
1. Switch on the motor briey and check that the rotor rotates
properly and smoothly in the stator.
2. If the rotor does not rotate, switch off the motor and secure
it against being switched on again.
3. Depending on the pump version, use a suitable tool to turn
the shaft at the following positions:
For versions with a stub shaft in the area behind the
mechanical seal
For versions with coupling/bel t drive i n the a rea of t he
key
