Feed faster than the feed dog while a number less than
zero slows the Dual Feed.
Turn the Multi-function knobs up/down clockwise
when setting to number greater than zero (counter
clockwise when setting to number less than zero) or
touch the (+) icon or move the slider in the display up
using the nger or the Touch Screen Pen.
BERNINA Dual Feed has many applications: seaming polar eece, installing zippers, sewing 9 mm decorative stitches on spongy
fabrics, attaching ribbon to fabrics, sewing decorative stitches onto ribbons and fabric at the same time, sewing with stretch
or slippery fabrics, and piecing long seams. (Dual Feed not available on the 4 Series machines.)
A separate motor allows the Dual Feed to be regulated independently of the feed dog. The Dual Feed Fine
Tune Adjustment allows for small adjustments to be made to control the feed of the fabric when fabrics
don't nish at the same time.
The Dual Feed can only be attached or detached when the
Presser Foot is raised.
Dual Feed feet require the Dual Feed to be engaged with the foot.
Without the Dual Feed engaged the sole of the foot is incomplete
and produces wavy seams and the fabric is difcult to guide when
sewing.
Dual Feed controls the fabric, not the stitch, to produce evenly
sewn seams.
If additional feeding results are desired, adjust the Presser Foot
Pressure with BERNINA Dual Feed. A good starting point is
around 30, but this depends on fabric choice.
BERNINA Dual Feed or Walking Foot #50?
Take advantage of having a choice depending on the project and
desired result.
Dual Feed works the fabric after the stitch is made. Dual Feed
affects the top fabric layer and the feed dog controls the feed
of the bottom fabric. The Dual Feed, if used for quilting, will
affect the top and bottom layer, leaving the batting to either
stretch or pack together without control.
With the Walking Foot, ALL layers are moved at the same time
and pace according to the movement of the feed dog. The
Walking Foot, dependent upon the fork and feed dog move
-
ment, moves all layers at one time. Once to the back, it lifts
and springs forwar
d waiting for the next feed dog stroke.
For decorative stitching, Dual Feed offers the ability to stitch
with 9 mm Stitch Width while the Walking Foot stitch width
limitation is 5.5 mm.
