Cleaning the Nebulizer
Cleaning the Nebulizer
A loss of sensitivity is a common indicator that the nebulizer requires
cleaning. Cleaning can remove blockages. Therefore it is
recommended to initially clean the detector with a suitable solvent
(e.g. acetone).
The most common cause of nebulizer blockage is precipitation of
substance. This blockage occurs either at the nebulizer tip or within
the inlet tube leading to the nebulizer.
To clean the nebulizer, the following procedure is
recommended.
1 Disconnect the Isolera splitter from the detector.
2 Put the detector into RUN mode.
3 Set the evaporator and nebulizer temperatures to 50 °C and the
gas flow to 2.8 SLM.
4 Fill the syringe supplied with the splitter with a suitable cleaning
solution (e.g. acetone).
5 Inject the cleaning solution into the eluent inlet at the front of the
detector, using the injection tube supplied with the splitter.
6 Repeat step 4 through 5 two times, i.e. inject a total of 30 mL.
NOTE
It is not possible to pump solvent into the detector if the nebulizer
becomes completely blocked.
It is strongly recommended to regularly clean the detector with a
suitable solvent (e.g. acetone) to keep the nebulizer clear of
obstruction.
