20. Air should not be free-owing from the Smart Reg when the ON/OFF Knob is in the ON posion
unless the Purge Buon is pressed. If air is free-owing, refer to Secon 13.6 on Page 46.
21. Press the Purge Buon to conrm Nomad is on and funconing properly and to conrm water does
not come out of the Mouthpiece or exhaust vents. Air should ow out of the mouthpiece when the
user presses the Purge Buon. If water is coming out of the Smart Reg, refer to Secon 13.4 on
Page 45 for instrucons on clearing Nomad of water. If air is not owing, refer to Secon 14.5 on
Page 51.
Do NOT operate Nomad for more than 20 seconds while out of the water.
22. Place your lips over the outside of the Mouthpiece.
23. Exhale and cauously inhale from the Smart Reg to conrm that Nomad is funconing properly.
Air should ow from the mouthpiece into the user’s mouth upon gentle inhalaon. If air is not owing,
refer to Secon 14.5 on Page 51. Air should easily vent out of the Smart Reg upon exhalaon.
24. Return the Smart Reg knob to the OFF posion unl the user is ready to dive.
25. Use the Startup Checklist in Table 8.6.2 below to conrm that each Pre-Dive Check has been
completed and the unit is funconing properly.

Baery installed with intake plug removed and connector is ght/waterproof

Dive Flag, Drip Cap, O-rings and Snorkel Tube properly aached
Dive Harness aached to Air Hose
Hose length between Smart Reg and Dive Harness properly adjusted
Dive Harness adjusted properly for diver and easy to remove quickly if necessary
