9.4.3 Breathing Rhythm and Pump Speed
Nomad will pump more air when the user inhales deeper. With lighter inhales, the pump will run slower and
pump less air to save energy. The pump will feel most smooth when the diver inhales deeply and the pump is
running fast. When running slowly and conserving energy, the diver will be able to feel more vibraon.
9.4.4 Purge Buon Operaon and Regulator Clearing Process
When water enters the Smart Reg, the diver has two opons to remove the water. The rst opon is to
exhale slowly and fully into the mouthpiece, which will force the water out of the exhaust ports. If this opon does
not clear the water or the diver is in a situaon where this is not praccal, the diver should use the Purge Buon.
By depressing the blue Purge Buon located on the front of the Smart Reg, the system will automacally vent air
through the Smart Reg, clearing the water out.
9.4.5 Free-Flow Stop
Free-ow is when the pump runs connuously causing air to connuously vent through the Smart Reg
whereas normal inhalaon and exhalaon does not cause free ow.. When Nomad detects that free-ow has
occurred for more than about 20 seconds, it stops pumping. The purpose of this feature is to prevent overheang,
Baery drain, and stop connuous free-ow. To reset aer it stops pumping due to connuous free-ow, the user
must turn the Smart Reg ON/OFF Knob to the OFF posion, then back to the ON posion.
The user must be aware of the Nomad stop free-ow feature at all mes, and especially when
underwater, during which the pump stops pumping air and will result in out-of-air hazards. Follow these guidelines
to manage situaons of Free-Flow:
i) Do NOT press the purge buon to cause the pump to run more than 20 seconds at a me,
ii) Perform a controlled safe ascent to the surface if the pump free-ows while diving because this is an
error condion and the pumping will stop aer 20 seconds,
iii) Free-ow may occur if the Smart Reg is placed in water with the mouthpiece out of the diver’s mouth and
poinng up. If this occurs, then turn the ON/OFF Knob to the ON posion, place the Mouthpiece in the diver’s
mouth and connue normal use.
