VALVE CLEARANCE

Use a feeler gauge to measure clearance
between valve stem end and rocker arm.
Valve clearance: (cold engine)
• IN: 0.001 to 0.003 in. (0.03 to 0.07 mm)
• EX: 0.001 to 0.003 in. (0.03 to 0.07 mm)
If measurement is out of specification, adjust
valve clearance.
IMPORTANT: The valve clearance specification
is for COLD engine condition.
Adjustment
Loosen valve adjusting lock nut while holding
pivot nut.
Turn pivot nut to bring valve clearance within
specification.
Tighten lock nut to 95 in. lbs. (11 N·m) while hold-
ing pivot nut.
Recheck valve clearance.
Tighten the cylinder head cover screws to 88 in.
lbs. (10 N·m).
IMPORTANT: Do not re-use cylinder head cover
gasket. Always use a new gasket.
