Chapter 5 The Measurement Set-up Menu
Frequency Range
The gain is specified using and on the amplifiers front panel. The
resulting output sensitivity is read-out in V/Unit on the lower part of the amplifier
screen.
See Chapter 6 for a detailed example which includes setting this parameter.
The allowable values are from 0.00 to 11.00dB
Note: Selecting Fine Gain =0dB is equivalent to turning the Fine Gain off. Using
the Fine Gain option reduces the usable frequency range to 40kHz.
5.5.4 Output Gain Select
Output Gain Select is used in conjunction with Input Gain Select to amplify the
amplifier output signal to a level suitable to the other instruments in the measure-
ment chain. The options are:
0dB*
10 dB
20dB
5.6 Frequency Range
5.6.1 Upper Frequency Limit
Use this menu to select an upper frequency limit which filters the effects of the
transducer’s mounted resonance frequency. The selection should be approximately 1
decade above the frequency range of interest as this avoids measuring errors result-
ing from phase distortions. Phase distortions do not affect RMS measurements on
continuous signals, but can prevent accurate measurement of peak levels and affect
the usefulness of waveform measurements. The options are:
1 kHz
3 kHz
10 kHz*
30 kHz
OFF
If you want the maximum frequency range (up to 100kHz or 40kHz if Fine Gain is
also OFF), select OFF.
5.6.2 Lower Frequency Limit
A low frequency capability is necessary for measurements of long duration impulses
and quasi-static vibrations. In general very low frequencies produce environmental-
ly induced low frequency noise which will mask the vibration output.
