RECORD AN ECG
43
NOTE: Before downloading orders, the ELI 280 must have downloaded the Custom ID from ELI Link or
E-Scribe.
NOTE: Changing key patient identifying fields like the name, ID, sex, birthdate, etc. after selecting an
order will cause the ECG to be disassociated with that order and treated as an unordered test.
NOTE: The user must have Technician or Administrator permissions. If the user is currently a Guest, they
must log in as a Technician or Administrator or enter the ELI 280’s Technician password.
NOTE: When an ECG is linked to an order, the order’s scheduled time will be displayed at the bottom of
the patient demographics screen. If the time is not displayed, the ECG is not linked to an order.
Patient Demographics from Barcodes
The ELI 280’s optional barcode scanner supports popular symbologies such as Code 39, Code 128, Aztec, Data
Matrix, and PDF 417, just to name a few. If the facility’s patient ID bracelets encode several demographic fields,
like the patient’s ID, account number, name, sex, and birthdate, it may be possible to program the barcode scanner to
parse the individual values into the ELI 280’s patient demographics data entry form. Refer to the barcode scanner
user manual for instructions on setup and use.
When the barcode scanner is programmed to parse several demographic values from a barcode, the user may scan
the barcode from the main screen. When a barcode is scanned from the main screen and the ELI 280 detects
multiple lines of text, it automatically jumps to the patient demographics form and copies the values into the form.
From there, the user can fill in the remaining fields and touch Done to go back to the main screen.
Order Lookup with Barcodes
Patient ID bracelets often include barcodes that encode a single patient identifier. It could be the patient’s
permanent medical record number, admission ID, account number, or something similar. Scanning the barcode
symbol can be a convenient way to find the patient’s order. Assuming the ELI 280’s worklist has been recently
synchronized with the host, the user can scan the patient’s barcode from the main screen. When the ELI 280 detects
a single line of text in the barcode, it automatically jumps to the MWL page and copies the scanned value into the
Search Worklist box. If the patient’s order is in the list, it will be automatically selected. If the patient’s order is
not found, the worklist may need to be resynchronized with the host. In that case, consider touching the Sync
button to refresh the worklist and search for the order again.
Once the order is found and selected, touch Done to go to the demographics screen and fill in any remaining fields
before touching Done to go back to the main screen.
