–15.0mm(0.4–0.6in)abovetheplates.Ifneces-
sary,topupusingdistilledwater.Checktheelectrolyte
levelmorefrequentlyinsummer.Makesurethatthe
connectingandcableterminalsarequiteclean,tight
andcoatedwithpetroleumjelly.
Checkthechargingconditionsofthebatteryusingan
acidhydrometer.Inwinter,itisessentialthatthebat-
terybewellcharged,astheelectrolyteinadischarged
batteryfreezesmoreeasilythaninabatterythatiswell
charged.
