Operation
appropriate range. The range switching mechanism is to skip to upper one once the peak
current exceeds the RMS times CF (2 or 4) and when the peak current is under 80% of RMS
times CF of lower one, it returns to lower range.
When in manual mode, if the input current exceeds the range of RMS times CF the display
will appear Over Current Range (OCR) as Figure 4-7 shows:
Figure 4-7 Over Current Range Warning
Once it is adjusted to appropriate range, the display will be cancelled and the measurement
function will resume to normal. If the measured current exceeds the maximum current, the
current range will switch to 2A or 20A and an Over Current Protection message will appear as
Figure 4-8 shows:
Figure 4-8 Over Current Protection Warning
At this time the current input of 66200 Series Power Meter will use Relay to short-circuit the
input to protect the measurement circuit. Once the error is fixed, press Enter/Trig to clear
the error message and restore it to normal measurement state.
L NOTE
1. For instance when the current is 0.2A(RMS) but the peak current is 0.32A only, the
current range stays in 0.1A without jumping to 0.4A as 0.32A< 0.1A × 4. This way the
66200 Series Power Meter can have better usability of measurement range that is to get
better accuracy.
2. The maximum current range of 66201 is 2A. Since the current crest factor CF=4
enables the peak current to be measured up to 8A maximum, the current signals that ≤
±8A can all be measured. However, taking the durability of internal shunt into
consideration, the 66201 can only measure or endure up to 4A(RMS) within this current
range. For 66202 Power Meter, the maximum current range of Hi Shunt module is
20A(RMS) so the maximum measurable or endurable current range is 20A(RMS).
a CAUTION
Once Over Current Range is occurred, the Meter will skip the range to 2A automatically to
check if it exceeds the maximum current capacity. If not, it will switch back to the original
range and show the message of Over Current Range. If yes, an Over Current Protection
message will show up and users must adjust the current to fix it.
