Configuring T1 (FT1) WAN Interface Cards

To change this configuration, enter commands in configuration mode, as described in the next section.
To view the current configuration, enter the show service-module serial slot/port command. For further
information about these commands, refer to the CiscoIOS configuration guides and command
references.
Command Purpose
Step1
Router> enable
Password: password
Router#
Enter enable mode. Enter the password.
You have entered enable mode when the prompt
changes to Router#.
Step2
Router# configure terminal
Enter configuration commands, one per line.
End with CNTL/Z.
Router(config)#
Enter global configuration mode. You have
entered global configuration mode when the
prompt changes to Router(config)#.
Step3
Router# ip routing
Router# appletalk routing
Router# ipx routing
Enable routing protocols as required for your
global configuration. This example uses IP
routing, AppleTalk routing, and Internetwork
Packet Exchange (IPX) routing.

Router(config)# interface serial 0/0
Router(config-if)#
Enter the interface configuration mode. You have
entered interface configuration mode when the
prompt changes to Router(config-if)#.

Router(config-if)# ip address 172.16.74.2
255.255.255.0
Assign the IP address and subnet mask to the
interface

Router(config-if)# no keepalive
Router(config-if)# appletalk static
cable-range 5-5

Configure routing protocols on the interface. You
must have previously enabled these protocols as
part of global configuration. In this example,
AppleTalk and IPX are being configured on the
interface.

Router(config-if)# service-module t1
framing

Router(config-if)# service-module t1
linecode ami
Enter the framing type and linecode type. In this
example, the framing type specified is sf
(Superframe) and the linecode specified is ami.
Step8
Router(config-if)# service-module t1
timeslots 1-20 speed 64
If you are using fractional T1 service, enter the
time slot range and speed. In this example, the
time slot range specified is from 1 to 20, and the
speed specified is 64 kbps.
Step9
Router(config-if)# exit
Exit back to global configuration mode.
Repeat Step 4 through Step 8 if your router has
more than one interface that you need to
configure.
Step10
Router(config)# Ctrl-z
Router#
When you finish configuring interfaces, return to
enable mode.
