How to configure speed and duplex on Cisco Catalyst 2960-L?
    • T
      Terri FloresAug 15, 2025
To configure speed and duplex on a Cisco Switch, you can either let both ports autonegotiate both speed and duplex, or manually set the speed and duplex parameters for the interfaces on both ends of the connection. If a remote device does not autonegotiate, use the same duplex settings on the two ports; the speed parameter adjusts itself even if the connected port does not autonegotiate.

What to do if Cisco Catalyst 2960-L Switch link status is down?
    • S
      Samantha LaneAug 21, 2025
If the Cisco Switch link status is down, ensure both ends of the cable are connected to the correct ports and that both devices have power. Verify you're using the correct cable type and check for loose connections by disconnecting and reconnecting the cable. Also, a single broken wire or a shutdown port can cause one side to show a link even though the other side does not have a link. Connect the cable from the switch to a known good device.

How to troubleshoot bad cable on Cisco Switch?
    • A
      Alicia WilliamsAug 26, 2025
To troubleshoot a bad or damaged cable on a Cisco Switch, examine or exchange the copper or fiber-optic cable with a known, good cable. Look for broken or missing pins on cable connectors. Rule out any bad patch panel connections or media convertors between the source and the destination. If possible, try the cable in another port or interface to see if the problem follows the cable.

Why is Cisco Catalyst 2960-L Switch autonegotiation failing with NIC?
    • R
      Robert RodriguezSep 7, 2025
If autonegotiation is failing between a Cisco Switch and a Network Interface Card (NIC), try manually setting both sides of the connection. You can also resolve this by upgrading the NIC driver to the latest version.

What to do if I can't ping end device from Cisco Catalyst 2960-L Switch?
    • R
      Ryan WalterSep 12, 2025
If you can't ping an end device from a Cisco Switch, start by pinging from the directly connected switch first, and then work your way back port by port, interface by interface, trunk by trunk, until you find the source of the connectivity issue. Also, make sure that each switch can identify the end device MAC address in its Content-Addressable Memory (CAM) table.
