3) To position the pick-up rollers to properly mesh with the car door skate, close the door
fully and measure from the inside edge of the strike jamb to the edge of the furthest roller.
This dimension should be between 9 1/4" - 9 3/8" (235 mm - 238 mm). Note, the rubber
door bumpers must be mounted on the strike jamb for this measurement to be correct.
4) Remove the plastic cover and bolt the interlock (Figure # 31, Item # 45) to the center
holes in the interlock support bracket. There are two (2) holes provided in the main
header to accept the interlock mounting bracket. Tighten the bolts so they are just snug.
5) To adjust the interlock, slowly let the door close until the beak assembly just approaches
the interlock without entering. Check that the beak enters the lock straight and not rubbing
the sides.
6) Adjust the interlock on its mounting bracket to align it with the beak. Allow the beak to fully
enter the lock and the door to sit against the rubber bumpers on the jamb. The snubber
roller (Figure # 38) will have fully rotated.
7) Observe the alignment of the shorting bridge (Figure # 35) to the interlock contacts and
the location of the locking side of the beak. When it entered the lock, the beak was
pushed down into the unlocked position, but as it passed the locking member in the
housing, a spring on the beak assembly raised the beak up into the closed and locked
position. At the same time, the shorting bridge on the top of the beak closed against the
electrical contacts, indicating to the controller that the door is closed and locked.
8) With the door fully closed, note the position of the beak and the metal locking member
(Figure # 36). There should be no more than 1/8" (3 mm) of play between the locking side
of the beak and metal locking member of the interlock housing.
NOTE
The beak should enter the housing as high as possible but still allow clean entry. The locking
portion of the beak should be fully engaged with the locking member on the housing.
9) Code requires that the beak engage in the locking member by 7/16" (11 mm) before the
electrical contacts can close. You must verify this to ensure safe interlock operation.
10) Tighten all the mounting bolts and move the door in and out manually. It should move
smoothly.
11) If the beak does not raise fully into position, there are three (3) different locations for
placing the cotter pin that will increase of decrease the amount of spring tension applied
to the beak. Adjust as required, but no more than is needed to raise the beak firmly
against the contacts. If the spring is too tight, the lock will be noisy during operation.
Some light lubrication may be required.
12) Set the pick-up rollers (snubber and locking) (Figure # 38) to extend no more than 3"
(76 mm) from the back of the mounting plate. This dimension is dependent on having the
proper 1 1/4" sill to sill clearance.
13) With the interlock installed, re-test the sill closer to ensure it has sufficient tension to close
the door fully into the interlock. To accomplish this, close the door and hold it about 1"
(25 mm) away from the interlock. Release the door and it should have sufficient tension to
push through the beak springs and fully close the doors. If it doesn't, re-adjust the sill
closer spring and tighten.
