Interfacing the Car and Landing Doors
Now that the car doors are assembled, they need to be interfaced with the landing entrance
doors. This is accomplished with the door skate (clutch restraint vane). The skate is the
interface between the powered car doors and the unpowered landing doors allowing the door
operator to open both. It fits between the two (2) rollers on the landing door when the car is at
floor level.
1) Set the skate assembly clutch mounting plate (Figure # 45, Item # 2) in position on the
fast door. There are four (4) holes provided. Bolt the skate assembly clutch mounting
plate to the door using the two (2) holes closest to the leading edge of the door.
2) Mount the skate and bracket to the studs on the mounting plate with the restrictor plate
towards the top. Set the center of the skate 10" (254 mm) from the outside of the strike
jamb. This will position the skate to enter midway between the two pickup rollers on the
landing door interlock arm.
3) The skate should extend out from the mounting plate by 3" (76 mm). There are two (2)
adjusting screws located behind the red angle for this purpose.
4) Test the position of the skate by standing on top of the car and, while watching the skate,
lower the car at slow speed. Observe the skate as it enters between the snubber and
locking rollers. See Figure # 38. The skate should enter midway or about 1/4" (6 mm)
away from the unlocking roller and must not touch either roller. If required, adjust the
skate on the mounting plate in order to achieve the proper clearances.
5) The skate should grip the unlocking roller by about 1/2" (13 mm) as it opens the doors.
6) With the doors open, run the car up in slow speed until the car sill is opposite the pickup
rollers. The rollers can be adjusted by loosening the clamp on the underside and moving
the roller in or out, as required. The distance from the car sill to the rollers should be 3/8"
(10 mm). This will provide the 1/2 (13 mm) required to grip the skate properly.
NOTE
All these dimensions are dependent on the proper clearance between the car and landing sills.
If it is not the specified 1 1/4" (32 mm), then all these dimensions will have to be adjusted
accordingly.
7) Finally, bring the car back to floor level and attach the sight guard (Figure # 32, Item
# 16).
NOTE
If optional photo-eyes were ordered, they will be pre-installed.
