b) Install the new U-Cup Rod Seal (Item # 6) into its corresponding groove. Be sure
that the lips of the U-Cup Rod Seal are facing down or toward the cylinder casing.
c) Fit the Rod Wiper (Item # 5) into the final groove at the top of the Gland Cap.
(Twisting the seal to a figure 8 shape will assist the installation of the seal).
d) Lubricate the internal area of the Gland Cap with Lithium grease (white grease) or
hydraulic oil.
e) Fit the O Ring (Item # 8) over the piston rod and onto the recessed groove at the top
of the cylinder casing (Item # 1).
7) Carefully install the pre-assembled Gland Cap with seals over the piston rod by rotating
and moving the Gland Cap assembly down until it is mated flush with the top of the
cylinder casing. A slight resistance will be felt when the U-Cup Rod Seal and Rod Wiper
are forced over the Piston Rod. Be sure that the O Ring is not dislodged as the Gland
Cap mates with the top of the cylinder casing.
8) Install the five (5) Socket Head Cap Screws (Item # 4) into the Gland Cap and tighten
evenly and lightly. Torque these cap screws to 120 inch lbs. in a criss-cross manner.
9) Install the Bleed Nipple (Item # 9) by hand two to three turns. DO NOT TIGHTEN.
10) Manually “jog” the hydraulic system in the “up” mode until oil becomes visible escaping
from the Bleed Nipple. At this point, lightly tighten the Bleed Nipple and continue jogging
the hydraulic system in the “up” mode until the Piston Rod reaches the passenger
platform. Reinstall the bolt that connects the Piston Rod to the platform.
11) The elevator cylinder is ready for a full functional test and may be cycled “up” and “down”
at least three or four full cycles to determine if the re-sealing is effective. Clean away any
oil and check for leaks.
