4.2 Node Controller Module
4.2.1 Functions of the Node Controller Module
This module controls the operation of Vortex, gathering the channel readings from the Quad Channel
Input Modules. After correcting them for the zero adjustment and calibration it calculates the detector
levels and checks them against the alarm limits. Based on the corrected inputs, it drives the displays,
calculates voted outputs and drives the Relay Output Modules. It also interprets the power and battery
status.The Node Controller Module contains the configuration of the system, which is stored in non-
volatile ferroelectric RAM (FRAM).
The Node Controller Module logs event data and controls communications between modules and
communications with external devices using the Modbus protocol.
Figure 3 gives a general view of the Node Controller Module. Figure 17 (Appendix B) shows the
electrical connections to the Node Controller Module.
