CROWCON DETECTOR RANGE
The following list gives details of some of Crowcon’s detectors, in manufacture currently, for use with
Vortex. This list is not definitive as new products are being added to the range all the time. For the
most up to date information refer to the Crowcon Web page at www.crowcon.com.
Product
Name
Type of Detector Typical Range/Gas
Xgard Type 1 Electrochemical.
2-wire 4-20mA sink, loop powered, local amplifier. Output is
proportional to the gas concentration at the detector.
Intrinsically safe.
Various ranges.
Most toxic gases, oxygen.
Xgard Type 2 Electrochemical.
2-wire 4-20mA source or sink, loop powered, includes a local
amplifier. Output is proportional to the gas concentration at
the detector. Sink device.
Flameproof.
carbon monoxide, hydrogen,
and hydrogen sulphide.
Xgard Type 3 Pellistor/catalytic bead.
3-wire mV bridge output. Requires converter to connect
to Vortex. Output is proportional to the gas concentration at
the detector.
Flameproof.
0-100% LEL.
Most flammable gases.
Xgard Type 4 Pellistor/catalytic bead.
High temperature version: operation up to 150ºC.
3-wire mV bridge output. Requires converter to connect
to Vortex. Output is proportional to the gas concentration at
the detector.
Flameproof.
0-100% LEL.
Methane.
Xgard Type 5 Pellistor/catalytic bead.
3-wire 4-20mA source or sink output, includes a local
amplifier. Output is proportional to the gas concentration at
the detector.
Flameproof.
0-100% LEL.
Most flammable gases.
Xgard Type 6 Thermal conductivity.
3-wire 4-20mA source or sink output, includes a local
amplifier. Output is proportional to the gas concentration at
the detector.
Flameproof.
0-100% vv.
Suitable for binary gases only.
