Thin layers of green algae over paint don’t generally need to be
removed.
When using Multiple Echo mode you DO NOT need to remove any
paint or surface protection – the gauge is designed to read
through and ignore these layers.
If there is loose rust (rusticles) or de-lamination of the metal
surface then you will probably need to remove these loose outer
layers with a scraping tool. Sometimes a chipping hammer is used
to remove stubborn rust layers.
