Cone-Up Sensor Assembly
Description
The cone-up sensor, shown in Error! Reference source not found., is used
by the Neptune control system to determine the location of the cone. An
illustration of the cone-up sensor can be found below. The sensor comprises of
two main parts, which are the sensor and the magnetic flux unit.
The magnetic flux unit generates a magnetic flux, which, when set up
correctly, activates a magnetic flux sensor in the sensor housing. The sensor
relies on the use of materials in the cone-rod with specific qualities. The main
rod material is none magnetic, so when the cone is out the magnetic flux
activates the sensor device. The cone coupling is manufactured from a
magnetic grade of stainless steel, which blocks the magnetic flux from
reaching the sensor, hence deactivating the sensing device.
