Motor / Gearbox Assembly
Description
This sub-assembly is the prime mover of the subsea CPT system. The 3.0kW
electric motor is designed to operate from the inverter drive, which converts a
fixed frequency, single phase input to a variable frequency/voltage output
nominally 220-240V/50Hz 3-phase a.c. supply. The drive consists of an oil
filled, 4-pole a.c. induction motor, directly attached to a right angle worm
drive and a 5-stage epicyclic reduction gearbox directly fastened to the back
plate of the thruster.
The gearbox output shaft rotary speed provides penetration of 2cm per
second. This reduction gearbox also provides the necessary torque to give a
maximum push of 35kN.
